Which gender and age group had the greatest rate of increase from 1900 to 2000?

Explore the visualization by answering these questions: 1. Look at the bar graph. What does it represent? 2. Look for the age group that increased the most and the one that increased the least, what are the age groups? 3. From your answers in question 2, look at the ratio of increase for each sex, which sex had a higher ratio of increase and what are they? 4. Think about what might cause the bar graph to look the way it does(all age groups increase, some age groups increasing more than others, etc.), what are some possible causes? 5. Answer the title question, please :)

  2. 1. The bar graph represents the rate of population growth from 1900 to 2000.
    2. Are you saying increase the most based on the ratio? If so, age group of 90 increased the most, and age group of 0 increased the least. However, the amount of population does not increase the most among age group of 90.
    3. Female. I'm not sure if you are asking the ratio only based on gender, or you want me to compare the female and male populations based on a specific age group. In general, it is hard to compare the male population growth.
    4. This is hard to tell because you're only showing the ratio, not the exact change in population. The original value of each age group is different. The ratio of 90 was greatest only because there was least population of 90 in 1900. This doesn't mean that age group of 90 has greatest increase in population from 1900 to 2000.
    5. Female and 90.

  3. 1. It represents the gender ratio of increase comparing the year 2000 to year 1900.
    2. In terms of the ratio increase, 90+ increase the most and 0 increase the least.
    3. Female in general has the larger increase in ratio; however, since the bar charts of genders are stacked on top of each other, it is not immediately apparent.
    4. There could be many possible reasons. One of them could be that the life expectancy for females are higher than for males. Another reason could be because of the rate of migration in and out of the country for difference genders are different.
    5. Female population at 90+ years old has the greatest increase in population ratio comparing year 1900 VS 2000.
